Things are changing

If you aren’t fishing right now you’re missing it! Fishing has been absolutely amazing the last few weeks. The river is extremely low and knowing where to fish is key to the days success. There is NO smallmouth “season” despite what the interweb says. Bass will eat flies all year long on the Kankakee. I have some October dates available.

Summer stride coming into the home stretch

You can’t ask for better conditions all around. The flows are perfect, air temps have been absolutely beautiful and great numbers of fish are coming to the boat every day. The biggest problem we’ve been having is floating grass that’s fouling flies. I’ve got a ton of availability in September and the first part of October. Get in on the action before the weather gets cold.

Tarpon trip 2.0

Let’s back up for a moment the first annual Tarpon trip was held last summer when Bill Katz and myself headed to the panhandle. Great time, and this is now a thing. Tarpon trip 1.0 was held back in May of this year but this time my oldest son came with which made the skiff full. 2.0 wasn’t supposed to happen but the poon does funny things to a guy, we wanted redemption. Bill and the kid couldn’t go so I reached out the J4, my tent mate from AK. This was going to be J4’s first trip to the salt and whoa is he ruined. Florida heat in July is NEXT level. In a weeks time tarpon snook redfish and a few off species made it to the skiff. 2023 Tarpon trip is already set and we’re all looking forward to it.

Locally the rivers are receding and the visibility sucks but the bass are hungry and playful. I’ve got August and September dates available.

Summer patterns and someone pulled the plug

Whoa, did someone pull the plug on the water levels. The river is almost August low and with no rain in the forecast things are going to get bumpy. Fishing is outstanding right now. You should’ve booked your day, you’re missing it! With the water temps in the 80’s the fish are sorts of piss and vinegar. Corked 8wts are a daily occurrence. Water vis is great and we’re able to sight fish when the sun gets high. Some July dates are available with gas prices over 5 bucks, fish local. There’s no need to travel.

Consistently awesome

The spawn is over and summer patterns are in full swing. Top water, baitfish patterns, and crayfish are all producing big numbers to the boat every day. Dodging rain storms hasn’t effected fishing or the river flows. As I said in the last report I haven’t seen fishing this good in some time. Three June dates and some July dates are available with gas prices over 5 bucks, fish local. There’s no need to travel.

Off the charts

Wooooh what a spring so far. Fishing is absolutely the best I’ve seen it in some time. It’s only the middle of May and the top water bite is epic. The river levels and water clarity is perfect. Things can’t get any better. I only have a handful of June dates left and July is filling quick. With fuel prices high there’s no reason to travel to neighboring states when great fishing is a hour away.
