Alaska week one

I made it to the last frontier, all my bags, rods and reels made it too. Camp life at Naknek River Camp http://www.naknekrivercamp.com/ is wonderful. The staff is friendly, the grounds have a amazing view of the mountain range and the river. I've had a good time learning the river from some good dudes, I was assigned a boat today and now the world is good. Clients come in tomorrow and my season officially starts Sunday. There are plenty of pink, sockeye, and chum salmon in the river system. Silvers are trickling in every day. The egg drop is coming soon and the GIANT rainbows that this place is famous for will be on the feed in the next week or so. I will have more to post about next week.

Mid summer blow out

Well my summer smallmouth season didn't quite end the way that I wanted it to. Once again Mother Nature sucks, and blew out the local rivers for the last week. Fortunately my customers all have rescheduled and now I have something to look forward to when I get home from Alaska. I will try and post once a week while I'm there but I'm told service is nonexistent at the lodge. Summer patterns

Fishing has been excellent the last couple weeks. The lower river has been producing fish on crayfish patterns day in and day out. Unfortantly the top water game has been lacking, hopefully that picks up again as the water clears. I am on the 2 week countdown until I head to Alaska for 6 weeks. Piles of gear have started showing up around the house. If you plan on fishing here locally with me pick a date after September 13th and lets get you locked down.

Quick update

The Kankakee is fishing decent through the state park. The water is dirty, visibility isn't great, top water is hit or miss. Other sections of the river are defiantly fishing better. It's nice that you have options when you book with me. The Dupage is super low and clear, grass has become a issue. I am totally booked until mid September for full day trips. If you want to do a after work special or a night trip I still have those available. Summer is going quick don't wait to long.

The week of evenings

It's been a week of late nights, putting the boat back on the trailer as the suns going down. The afterwork specials that I offer have been popular this week. There's nothing like finishing a day at the office and then catching smallies on top water flies. Summer is flying by.

Getting back to normal

Finally, things are getting back to normal. The Dupage river has been fishing great this week. The water is crystal clear, the weed growth has started but isn't a problem yet, and the fish are eating if you play the game correctly. The fish are VERY spooky because of the clear water. If you're wading walk quite on the bank, if you're in a boat don't rock it. The fish will feel you coming before you even get close to them. Best bite has been top water or crayfish patterns. The Kankakee is dropping and the water clarity is improving. Best bite has been a tough question, keep trying flies and don't give up is the best advice that I can give you.

Day off playing catch up

Up's and downs. The rains come down and the rivers goes up. This spring is still continuing to be a challenging one. The rivers are all fishable but still on the high side. Water clarity is 16" max. Bigger flies with rattles in them have been the patterns of choice. All rivers are in post spawn mode and producing good quality fish every trip out. I had the opertuinty to be interviewed for a pod cast when I talk about our local fisheries,  http://guidedlines.com/featured-guides/episode-004-captain-austin-adduci/
